One well established trailer maker that welcomed the new limits was the York Trailer Co of Corby, Northhants. The company had been founded by Fred Davies in Burnley around 1957, he had previously worked for the Canadian Trailmobile concern and his Brother had founded the Davies Magnet Fifth Wheel company. Davies was regarded as the prime motivator in the UK artic revolution and York flourished during the Sixties turning out many different models of semi-trailer.
The York name possibly had Canadian connections; York was the city’s name before changing to Toronto in 1834 and still remains an area of the city. The York Trailer logo also has the Maple leaf incorporated in the centre of the ‘O’.
